Pallet Bench Tutorial

About three months back I was determined to make our apartment balcony be a place to chill, eat outside, play some cards and read a good book. It’s been one of my favorite projects simply because I use it all the time! So before I head out to go see Skyfall (so stoked!) I wanted to show you how I made it because it’s super simple!

Tools needed:

  • Drill
  • Paint Brush
  • Staple gun
  • Sander (hand or electric)
Supplies needed:
  • Paint
  • Four rotating wheels
  • About 25-30 wood screws
  • Short staples for staple gun.
  • Outdoor fabric
  • 4 inch foam or whatever size you prefer (wait for Joann’s coupons/sales)
  • 2 pallets
  • Flat piece of wood the size of the top of your pallets
  • Polyurethane
Step 1: Cut the pallets in half (so that they look like short ladders).
Step 2: Sand, paint and polyurethane them (the latter is optional; I did it to protect the wood).

Step 3: Screw your wheels into the bottom pallet, at the corners. Then screw your two pallets together, you will need longer nails for this part. I went at an angle on the sides.
Step 4: For the pressed wood that you will put on top, I recommend getting it purchased and cut at Home Depot or Lowes, unless you have an electric saw. Do check their remains section, leftovers that are cheaper.
Step 5: Place your pre-cut foam on top of the piece of wood, then upholster it (putting the fabric over, holding it tightly and using your staple gun to secure it). Then, using short screws, attach your piece of wood that is now upholstered to the top pallet.
And you are done!

I also made that table with a hand saw and scrap wood. :)
Now you have yourself a new seating area that you (and your furry friends) can enjoy!

Well, off to the movies I go!
Hope you all enjoy your Saturday! It is just lovely out here!

Thank you Lizzie! Will you believe me when I say, my husband picked out the fabric? He’s so much better at colors and patterns than I. :)

I might actually get my husband to do this since it doesn’t call for pulling the boards off the pallets. Thanks!

Yes pulling off those boards can be quite a task and I did it for another project. This one is so much easier because you just saw the pallets in half. I just used a hand saw and did it myself. It made me work up a sweat for sure but was so worth it!

Oh yes I use the table all the time! I mostly just put my laptop on it or a book when I go outside. Though it has been a tad cold lately so I haven’t been out there as much (insert frowny face).
